Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2022

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a week-long celebration held annually in September. This event creates the space for acknowledgment and activities to show truck drivers how much we appreciate them! Drivers play a critical role in the transportation industry, so it’s important for us to let them know how much they are valued. These men and women are on the front line of almost every business. From construction sites to grocery stores, truck drivers are essential cogs in the machine that is our country’s economy.

September 11 – 17 is National
Truck Driver Appreciation Week

The first Sunday in September marks the kickoff of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (or NTDAW for short). The idea behind National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is simple: we want to let the truck drivers who keep our economy moving know how much we appreciate them. Truck drivers are the unsung heroes of our country’s economy. They spend long hours on the road, ensuring that products are delivered on time and that people can eat, sleep, shop and more. Doing this allows the businesses we rely on daily to keep functioning. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an opportunity when the truck driving industry can come together to celebrate the people who make it happen.

Celebrating Our Truck Drivers

A truck driver is a person who drives a truck for a living. Generally speaking, anyone who drives a truck for a living is considered to be a truck driver. However, in some cases, the role of a truck driver can be more specific. Whether you are part-time, full-time, an independent contractor, or an owner and driver of a large fleet – we celebrate you during this time! Regardless of the scope of the role, all truck drivers have the same basic responsibilities: they are responsible for ensuring that their trucks are safe to drive and that they are able to complete their routes on time. As such, good driving skills and thorough knowledge of local laws and regulations are essential. And we acknowledge the time and effort they put in each day.

Why We Value Truck
Driver Appreciation Week

Americans depend on trucks to move the 80% of our goods that are transported by road. Truck driving is often among the most under-appreciated roles in the country. Truckers are often overworked, underpaid, and over-stressed. But National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a time to celebrate the trucking industry and the people who work in it. It’s a time for the industry to acknowledge the hard work of truck drivers. It’s a chance for businesses to say thank you to the people who make transporting goods possible. And it’s a whole lot of fun for truck drivers themselves, who get to experience a well-deserved “thank you”.

How Do Truck Drivers
Contribute to Businesses?

The truck driving industry is the lifeblood of the American economy. It’s a crucial part of moving goods around the country and getting them to the people who need them. Without truck drivers, grocery stores would run out of food, gas stations would run out of fuel, and your favorite delivery services would deliver nothing. They transport everything from farm products to building materials to food and consumer goods. Without truckers, most Americans would have a much harder time getting what they need each day. Truckers, regardless if it's day or night, carry out their tiring jobs and stay on the road in all conditions to help businesses run on their schedule. They never let extraneous variables disrupt their job and their adaptability in situations is praiseworthy.

Ideas, Activities, and Events for
Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Because National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a time for the trucking industry to come together, there are a variety of activities that are held during this week. From open houses at terminals to special breakfasts and lunches. Businesses across the trucking industry come together to celebrate their drivers. There are also plenty of ways for companies to get involved in celebrating the drivers who serve their needs. Companies can host events and activities inside the office, they can use social media to get the word out about the week, or they can take advantage of the wide variety of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week merchandise and support the meaning behind the event with promotion and gifting the local truckers in their lives.

Celebrate On A Personal Level

Whether you work in the industry or are just a fan of the dedicated work, there are lots of ways to show your appreciation this week. To celebrate your drivers, give them a pat on the back, send them a text message, make them a personalized gift, or hold an impromptu lunch. If you want to go further, invite them for coffee, take them out for dinner, or even buy them much-needed parts for their truck! Whether small or big, anything you do will leave a smile on their faces.

You can also offer incentives for safe driving and employee recognition. Driving safely is an important factor and should be a priority for all truck drivers. As such, there are several ways to encourage safe driving and recognize those who drive safely. Acknowledge drivers who consistently wear seat belts or use turn signals when driving. Incentivize safety by providing recognition programs for those who drive safely and take advantage of available safety training opportunities.

To help spread awareness of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and the important work drivers do every day, share your story on social media with the hashtag #NationalTruckDriverAppreciationWeek and let them know you appreciate them.
